How You Know
You will know a great love
has entered your life
when out of nowhere—
lying on a yoga mat
or driving to the store—
you weep with a mix
of gratitude and a bruising
grief, even at the thought
of someday losing it.
I felt compelled to share this little poem today because I wrote it just a few months after meeting the man who would later become my husband. Nearly ten years later, Brad and I have collaborated on a book that is closer to my heart than any other I've ever made. Our anthology of love poems from the LGBTQ+ community and friends, Love Is for All of Us, will be officially out in the world in exactly a month. Soon, we'll be signing copies with our local indie bookstore, Battenkill Books, who will ship to anyone who orders in the U.S. We had no idea this book would be so timely and necessary right now, so we hope you'll consider supporting this project, and lending your support to a female-owned indie bookstore at the same time. You can order your copies at the link below. Look for announcements about our book tour coming soon!

Mazel Tov on the new book!!! 🎉✨💛”A bruising grief” What a powerful phrase. I love how relatable this poem is—oh wait, all your poems are. I thank you for putting words to the kind of heart pain that has to do with the fear of losing someone precious. I understand this, both relating to an intimate beloved and also children. I don’t know if you have any children, human or fur or otherwise, that is when I have felt that heart bruising the most, standing at the door as my 20 something go off driving in the Bay Area and just praying that whatever guardian angels and their own intuition can keep them protected, will do so, and bring them back to me time again, whole, happy. Thank you!
Pre-ordered and can’t wait! ❤️
