Oh James, you most certainly matter to me! I look forward to Fridays, to reading your poem, your comments, your questions. I have your books and love the anthologies where you introduce me to some poets I am not familiar with just as I appreciate your own poems. Thank you for Being. Your being you matters!
In these days of Jimmy Carter’s passing I am reminded of how deeply committed he was to making a difference in our world. As I read your poem, I was struck by the fact that your work of being a wordsmith is your way of healing the world and making a difference that ripples out to “unlock hearts”. You, also a James, does as only you can do work to further human rights and alleviate suffering.
The guru Ram Das reminded us that we are walking each other home. Your poem is a beautiful reminder to take a hand, and walk together into the unknown, one small step at a time.
Last weekend I dropped in to visit an older friend of mine I hadn't seen in a while. I had recently bought 2 of your books and decided to give her The Wonder of Small Things; I just had a feeling she'd like it. She LOVED it! She phoned me yesterday and told me she had asterisked many poems she particularly appreciated.
Your voice matters, your work matters, and it's such a beautiful gift to all of us!
How to be of help?
Witness, listen, lend a hand.
Kindness soothes pain.

Thank you for reminding me that our intentions and unseen actions matter and can help to heal .
